Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

Klima (Logorrhea) brings together many of the greatest minds in fantasy, horror, and young adult fiction in this rollicking reprint anthology of 33 diverse fairy tale retellings from the past two decades. Gregory Maguire's "The Seven Stage a Comeback" is a clever, mirthful sequel to Snow White. Peter Straub's "Ashputtle" turns Cinderella's plight into a shocking tale of psychological horror. Susanna Clarke's Victorianesque "Mr. Simonelli, or the Fairy Widower" follows a rector who discovers a family secret when he's assigned to a mysterious town in the English countryside. Neil Gaiman expertly flips a familiar trope on its head in "The Troll Bridge." These and other longtime authors are joined by equally talented newcomers such as K. Tempest Bradford and Genevieve Valentine. Fairy tale fans will give this volume pride of place on the shelf. (July) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved.

Review by Library Journal Review

For years this reviewer has had a river rock on her mantelpiece with a naturally eroded hole. Some of these stories renew the restless temptation to lift the rock to one's eye; others recall the wisdom of leaving well enough alone. This is a collection to be devoured, nibbled, savored, and sucked down all at the same time. The powerful voices twist and weave new tales echoing familiar and timeless folklore that will keep you up late, make you late for work, and otherwise scramble the plans you had in mind. Hugo Award winner Klima (Electric Velocipede) has outdone himself, gathering 33 stories from the best and brightest (Gregory Maguire, Susanna Clarke, Charles de Lint, Holly Black, Kelly Link, and Neil Gaiman, among many others). If Bill Willingham (who writes the introduction) is not an incredible liar, we're all doomed! Fans of Terri Windling's "Fairy Tales" series and Ellen Datlow and Windling's "Snow White, Blood Red" anthologies will dance with the magic and wonder brought together here. Verdict Entrancing, rich, and strange.
