Rainer Werner Fassbinder (The Marriage of Maria Braun) offers one of his most approachable works with this stylized May-December romance between a frumpy, late-middle-aged cleaning lady and a handsome Arab mechanic who is considerably younger. Among the interesting extras is a pithy discussion by Todd Haynes (Far from Heaven) of the shared influence of Douglas Sirk's 1955 Hollywood melodrama All That Heaven Allows.
