Both an exuberant celebration of princesses, heroes, and villains, and also an inviting instruction manual on how to draw popular cartoons, these lively titles in the Learn to Draw Favorite Characters series will appeal to artists as well as to fans of animated movie and TV programs. With brief introductions to each character, the step-by-step guidelines and diagrams focus on getting the body language right how not to do it as well as what works. In How to Draw the Best of Nickelodeon, one of the 15 characters is Otto, the fearless leader of the Rocket Power gang, and the drawing instructions begin with a circle and a squarish bean shape connected by a cylinder, followed by pictures showing and telling how to place eyes, arms, legs, hands, feet, and those famously wrinkled clothes. Older readers, too, will appreciate the hands-on advice, which will make them focus on details of line, shape, and color to help create the stories everyone knows.--Rochman, Hazel Copyright 2010 Booklist
