Review by School Library Journal Review

Gr 2-5-These titles have clear explanations of natural phenomena, beautiful full-color illustrations, and an uncluttered design. Each book approaches its topic in a methodical, logical fashion, using examples from a child's world. For example, in Waves, Mara compares the length of time the wind moves across water and its effect on the size of the waves to a child blowing out birthday candles; short bursts provide less energy than sustained winds. "Now I Know!" boxes in each chapter ask questions that review information in the text, with the answers upside-down underneath. Key vocabulary appears in bold type throughout and is defined in a glossary. Each volume also features a simple, hands-on activity related to the topic.-Kathleen Kelly MacMillan, Carroll County Public Library, MD (c) Copyright 2011.
