Review by School Library Journal Review

K-Gr 4-Each program focuses on a different area of wellness, and points out how good choices can lead to good habits. The multiethnic cast uses vignettes, discussion, and example to show ways in which viewers can promote their own health and well-being. In Safety Awareness, basic safety rules are covered for fire safety, poisons, electricity, being home alone, and transportation. A fashion show fetures safe sports attire. Viewers are also given information on when it is appropriate to call 911. Personal Health and Hygiene discusses physical fitness (including warm-ups and cool-downs), and general health issues-cleanliness; tooth, eye, and ear care; sleep; nutrition; and the importance of using sunscreen. Decisions and Conflicts outlines the decision-making process and teaches conflict-resolution. It discusses peer pressure (both positive and negative), and gives information on dealing with bullying. In Nutrition, food groups are presented, and their role in good health is explored. Viewers are encouraged to read nutrition labels, eat healthy snacks and a good breakfast, and exercise. Food allergies and safe food-handling rules are also presented. Dealing with Feelings examines anger, fear, sadness, stress, worry, and jealousy. Youngsters are urged to share their feelings and talk things over with a trusted adult. Strong family ties are encouraged, and self-esteem is emphasized. The remaining two programs were not reviewed. Each program includes a review of all key points. The pacing is brisk, and the subject matter is important.
