Review by Booklist Review

If one trip through Life-Size Zoo (2009) wasn't enough and for kids, it rarely is this sequel offers more of the same, which is a wonderful thing. The format hasn't changed: a double-page spread offers a vivid photograph of an animal in actual-size dimension, which makes certain beasts seem scarier than ever (see the crocodile) or cuter than ever (see the baby gibbon). The routine is punctuated by wow moments, most notably in the few four-page foldouts, like the upper face that's all that fits! of a gigantic hippo. Playful sidebars give stats, search-and-find hints, and quirky facts. Almost like visiting a real zoo, minus the odor.--Kraus, Daniel Copyright 2010 Booklist

K-Gr 3-Displaying superb photos of favorite zoo animals on eye-catching spreads (and several dramatic foldouts), these books mix close-up head shots of larger species (elephant, aardvark, lion, etc.) with full-body images of smaller creatures (koala, sloth, bat). Entries include chatty intros, "can you find" prompts for closer observation, and fun facts. All-around browsers' delights, these oversize volumes are useful for prepping for or revisiting a zoo. Each of these large-format volumes highlights animals both familiar (lion, walrus) and lesser known (okapi, dugong). A single sentence introduces the animal while a vertical comic-like column provides further information. Phenomenal life-size photographs are the books' highlights, with several foldouts offering expansive, up-close views. The volumes will captivate their targeted audience. Endpapers offer additional animal data. [Review covers these titles: Life-Size Aquarium and Life-Size Zoo.] (c) Copyright 2011. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
