Review by Kirkus Book Review
Bestselling Cajun master painter Rodrigue has followers and fans around the world. His iconic Blue Dog (based on an amalgam of his own late lamented terrier and the spooky Cajun loup-garou tales) has achieved an almost Warhol-like recognition. Not surprisingly, these crayon-bright, clear, simple and (occasionally) hypnotic images have been repurposed into an appealing, interactive picture book. Generously sized, the book's squared-off dimensions (9" x 10") and a metallic, reflective cover (featuring not only one but three Blue Dogs in stoplight red, dark blue and deep green) invite readers within. The images of families, cats, monkeys and more (Elvis makes a cameo) keep young readers involved as they puzzle out a series of answers to the oft-repeated question, "Are You Blue Dog's Friend?" A final, mirrored page reflects both the reader and the facing pagea kaleidoscope of the ever-appealing Blue Dog. An irresistible choice for the artist's adult fans and a spot-on selection for specialty and museum stores. Why wait till Mardi Gras? This offers handsome, appealing fun for all right now.
