Review by Booklist Review

Grim, founder of a Missouri rescue agency for feral and abused dogs, has previously promoted his cause in the popular press and on TV (his own reality show is apparently in the works). In this book, he voices his great frustration about pet guardians whose self-interest outweighs their obligation to their charges. Using letters from individuals who want to dump their dogs, and experiences he's had with his own pack of developmentally challenged pooches, he explains how to deal with the most common behavioral problems that rescued dogs take to their new homes including aggression, incessant barking, and separation anxiety. Much of the information will be familiar (think the Dog Whisperer), but Grim delivers an occasional surprise all his own (tequila-lime spray to discourage coprophagia also perfect for salad), while his sardonic, sometimes self-deprecating narrative manages to be funny, practical, and heartfelt all at the same time.--Zvirin, Stephanie Copyright 2009 Booklist
