This duchess of mine

Eloisa James

Book - 2009

Regency fiction. Scandalous Jemma Beaumont and proper polititian Elijah Beaumont were always like oil and water. It came as no surprise to anyone when Jemma left to thrill all of France with her antics shortly after their wedding. But no one expected her return home ready to play the part of dutiful wife least of all her husband.

After years of living apart, Jemma, the Duchess of Beaumont, returns to London to honor her husband Elijah's hope that they can finally produce an heir. The only problem is that Jemma wants to be more than Elijah's wife; she wants to be the only woman he loves. Finding the key that unlocks Elijah's heart will not be easy, but Jemma is determined to seduce her honorable husband away from the pressing political duties that she believes will be the death of him. As one of England's best chess players, she knows how to strategize, and plans to use her skills to win the game of romance. The latest exquisitely fashioned addition to best-seller James' irresistible Desperate Duchesses series.--Charles, John Copyright 2009 Booklist

For the first four books in James's "Desperate Duchesses" series, Jemma and Elijah, the Duke and Duchess of Beaumont, uneasily sharing a home after living apart for years, have been key players in the romances of others. In this, the penultimate book in the series, the time has come for them to produce an heir and, if Jemma has her way, rediscover passion and fall in love once more. Jemma is not a chess master for nothing, and this fun-living duchess is determined to win the heart (and heal it, if she can) of her proper, straitlaced duke by making him choose her in the most critical game of her life. VERDICT Clever plotting, luscious sensuality, and witty, intelligent banter are the hallmarks of this scandalously entertaining book, which nicely sets the stage for A Duke of Her Own (coming in August), the story of the wickedly charismatic Duke of Villiers. James (When the Duke Returns) lives in the New York City area. (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
