Cederlund (chief curator, Uppsala University Art Collections) offers a valuable capsule with insights into the architectural development of Sweden's past. Presented in chronological order, running through the Baroque, Late Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassic, and Empire periods, art historian Cederlund's book is one of few published on the subject that is written in English by a Swedish author. The publication examines a wide range of building types for each of the styles, focusing primarily on structures for the monarchy; residential, public, civic, and church architecture; and the architects/designers who created them. It is blessed with an extensive collection of truly exquisite color photographs and renderings, which have been mixed with black-and-white sketches, floor plans, and various historical documents. Appropriate for all, from general readers through graduate students and professionals. Summing Up: Highly recommended. All levels. R. P. Meden Marymount University
