Review by Library Journal Review
The average photographer revels in the possibilities of digital color photography, but sumptuous black-and-white images like those of Ansel Adams are in danger of disappearing. This book brings black-and-white photography into the digital age, emphasizing that it involves far more than taking a photo and removing color with Photoshop. Beardsworth (Digital Black & White Photography) delves into tonal separation, distribution of grayscale tones, image balance, and how to lighten and darken selected areas. He offers advanced techniques, such as toning, the simulation of lith prints and infrared film photography, solarization, and pinhole camera effects. Highly recommended, especially if paired with Ansel Adams's The Print. (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
