Review by Booklist Review

This instructional origami title invites children not only to experiment with folded paper but also to use their creations in their everyday play. An introductory spread sets out the basic mountain and valley folds as well as the symbols used in the following instructions. Subsequent pages feature an array of step-by-step projects, from familiar objects and animals, such as a boat and a big-eared bunny, to more abstract shapes, such as a balancing mobile. The pages combine a dynamic array of images, including ink illustrations of the folding steps and color photos of young people playing with their finished work, often in appealing outdoor settings. As with Dan Nguyen's origami books for youth, including Jungle Animal Origami (2003), this how-to will appeal to a wide range of children (preschoolers will need help) as well as to the adults and teens who work with them.--Engberg, Gillian Copyright 2008 Booklist

Introduction For those little, everyday pleasures... Using this book, you'll be able to make up your own games. In just a few minutes, you can fold a sheet of paper and create something you can play with right away. The sailboat moves forward if you blow into its sails. the helicopter takes off spinning in the air. The firecracker explodes with a sharp crack. And the wobbly toy playfully runs down the staircase. Other fun origami projects await you and will amaze all your friends. What will you need? A few simple sheets of paper, a pair of scissors, and, especially, a good imagination.
