Review by School Library Journal Review

Gr 1-3-On his third road trip (after experiencing the Western and Northeastern regions of the country), this canine cutie invites the audience to travel through 12 Southern states. As in the first two titles, each one has a box with trivia and state facts such as the capital, nickname, and flag, and a small map that shows its location in relation to the other states featured in the book. Then, in rhyme, the audience is told (... la "Where's Waldo" and "I Spy") to find certain things around the state-the Alphabet Museum in North Carolina, Key West in Florida, etc. At the end of each quest, the author asks, "Where's Charlie?" And the little yellow-brown dog is the most challenging thing to find in each map, which is crowded with all sorts of interesting place depictions. At least one fact is not quite accurate. Louisiana is listed as the only state that doesn't have counties. Well, perhaps in the Lower 48. However, Alaska doesn't either. This is a brief, fun introduction to U.S. geography.-Anne Chapman Callaghan, Racine Public Library, WI (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. Review by Horn Book Review

This book presents cursory information about twelve Southern states. The loosely rhymed text (""Where's a concert that rocks?...Where do turkeys trot?"") directs readers to locate specific places on a cartoon-type map. Charlie, a small dog, is also hidden among the cluttered pictures. Sidebars are the book's only highlight; scant information about history or geography is included in the actual rhymes.
