Review by Choice Review

This rather lengthy book serves as an excellent resource as well as a text for a refresher course in single-variable calculus, and as a study guide for anyone who needs or is required to know basic calculus concepts. There are numerous worked-out examples with explanation and commentary included to give readers information and guidance providing insight into how to solve problems. The advantage of this approach is that readers will then be able to solve similar problems on their own. Banner is director of research at INTECH and lecturer in mathematics at Princeton University. Although numerous people have provided help in completing this book, the students who have used it successfully contributed great insight into what should and should not be included. Readers will find this book written for them, as calculus is presented in a very casual conversational tone; certainly, students who are not mathematics majors will benefit greatly. Included is a year's supply of the author's review sessions that cover most of the topics in the book. A valuable resource. Summing Up: Recommended. Lower- and upper-division undergraduates. J. T.
