Review by Library Journal Review

This beautiful set covers 18 California locales on six discs. Each disc includes three segments, with details on the cities, towns, and tourist highlights of a specific area. Heading from north to south, the locales are Calistoga, Napa, Sonoma, San Francisco, Marin, Monterey, Lake Tahoe, El Dorado County, Amador County, Tulare County, Calaveras County, Paso Robles, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Temecula, San Diego, and Costa Mesa. British host Simon Kane is our guide, and his enthusiasm for the state makes each segment a pleasure to watch. The photography of the beautiful scenery is luminous, and the musical soundtrack is a pleasure to experience in itself as well as a soothing background to the visuals. Even for someone who knows California well, this set features many out-of-the-way surprises, including bed and breakfasts as well as tempting restaurants. The interviews with winemakers, chefs, and owners of the featured inns add to the charm. This set would be an excellent addition to any public library, but particularly those in the Golden State.--Susan Clayton, Univ. of Redlands, CA (c) Copyright 2010.
