Gr 3-6-Each of these volumes examines the history of the landmark, providing background information about the region prior to and at the time of construction. The authors look at how the structures came to be, their monumental construction, and the public's reaction to them. A final section focuses on visiting the sites. "Quick Facts" further summarizes the statistical information. The excellent-quality photographs do a fine job of depicting the marvels and their surrounding areas. The maps and drawings enhance the texts by visually telling the story of these "modern wonders."-Christine Markley, Washington Elementary School, Barto, PA (c) Copyright 2010. This book introduces Gustave Eiffel and explores how the Eiffel Tower came to be (having overcome some resistance from Parisians). Striking photographs and paintings capture Paris's most famous attraction from many vantage points and times of day. The clean design, approachable text, and multitude of visual aids effectively introduce the easily recognizable structure. Maps, ""Quick Facts."" Glos., ind. (c) Copyright 2010.
