According to the Old Testament, after Joseph died, Egyptian leadership changed hands and the Israelites were once again enslaved. Moses, at God's command, rose to assume responsibility and pleaded for the captives' release. Pharaoh denied initial pleas, eventually relented, and then changed his mind. He sent his army after the fleeing Israelites, who escaped in the well-known Bible story of the parting of the Red Sea. After receiving the Ten Commandments, Moses died en route to the Promised Land. Generations later, the Israelites finally reached Canaan. This is the story, highly abridged, of the Exodus as told in the second book of the Old Testament. For The Exodus Decoded (note the use of the catchword code), filmmaker/researcher Jacobovici worked with a team of historians and scientists for six years to present a scientific explanation for this Bible tale, to verify the details of the Exodus, and to narrow the range of dates considered for the event. Host James Cameron (director, Titanic) is the executive producer of this intriguing, fast-paced History Channel program. It features computer-generated imagery, dramatic music, and state-of-the-art production values. As another Bible story vs. science from Exodus might be controversial for public schools, this disc is recommended for adult collections.-Diane Kazlauskas, Univ. of North Florida Lib., Jacksonville (c) Copyright 2010.
