Review by School Library Journal Review

Gr 5-8-Artemis Fowl devotees will relish the fifth book (Miramax, 2006) in the series, the sequel to The Opal Deception (Miramax, 2005). The fairy people are in trouble because a magical time spell is unraveling for a colony of demons who have been living in Limbo. In this episode, Colfer introduces this new "family" of fairy people, the demons, and creates an elite branch of the L.E.P. (Lower Elements Police) that deals exclusively with monitoring demon activity. Holly Short is restored to her rank as Captain and Foaly, the technical wizard, is given a seemingly endless budget to invent even more ingenious gadgets to guide our heroes on their latest mission to the crumbling island home of the eighth family to save their race-and themselves-from oblivion. Artemia is called on to predict when the next demon will appear and help protect the fairies. Nathanial Parker narrates with skill and humor. His mastery of the nuances of the Irish and English accents adds depth to the novel.
