Even the discs of this audiobook are bold-a vivid shade of pink coats each one-in keeping with their message encouraging women to recognize their unique gifts, given by God and thus worthy of confidence on that basis alone. Meyer's voice is heard only for the eight-minute introduction, after which she is (no doubt) confident enough to let another narrate her loving yet no-nonsense avowals. Pat Lentz's narration remains confident and upbeat throughout the six hours, from the God's Eye View of Women (scriptural proof that women are wonderful) to the citation of statistics on the worldwide degradation of women, the detailed history of the women's movement, right through Seven Secrets of a Confident Woman and Living Boldly and Without Fear ("Fear is the dark room where all of your negatives are developed"). Listeners may need to apply Meyer's exhortation and empowering commentary sooner than they think, as the lack of chapter information on the discs may cause them to lose confidence in finding their place on these CDs. Meyer's Battlefield of the Mind: Winning the Battle in Your Mind has been one of religious publishing's great recent success stories, and her new book develops further the approach that proved so popular in that title. Making continual reference to Christian Scripture, Meyer guides women readers toward a deeper appreciation of their own strengths, moving them past their fears and society's false ideas and toward "boldness." Meyer represents a fascinating adjustment of conservative Christianity to some of the ideas that feminism has introduced into the general culture she and her ilk are Christian women but are in no way passive sufferers.
