Choquette, the author of many books that help readers release their inner psychic, here introduces the idea of spirit helpers who guide and support people through life's highways and byways. Obviously, one has to have walked a fair piece down the psychic pathway to be open to the concept of spirit guides. Many more people, however, believe in the notion of guardian angels, and this is where Choquette begins. Writing in a lively, friendly style, which intertwines personal anecdotes with how-to advice, she explains the difference between angelic helpers (including the big guns, the archangels) and spirit guides. She then breaks down the latter into smaller groups such as teacher guides, healer guides, etc., explaining the particular province of each group and offering advice on how to call upon them. Later chapters explain what the guides can--and cannot--do. This book certainly comes under the category of "everything you wanted to know about," and it will delight believers. The less convinced may wonder how the multitude of helpers avoid bumping into each other. --Ilene Cooper Copyright 2006 Booklist
