Review by Publisher's Weekly Review
Old favorites return to print this summer. The New York Review Children's Collection continues their elegant paper-over-board reissues of Esther Averill's classic Jenny the cat titles with Jenny's Birthday Book (1954) and Jenny Goes to Sea (1957). Jenny's birthday starts with a bang, as Pickles the fire cat picks up the heroine and her feline friends on the fire truck and takes them to their picnic site in New York's Washington Square Park. In the second title, Jenny and her siblings take a ride with their owner, Captain Tinker, on a luxury ocean liner on a voyage around the world. (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved

Review by Horn Book Review
Averill's unpolished, utterly charming illustrations, printed in alternating black-and-white and full-color spreads, enliven this reissue. The picture of all the cats celebrating Jenny's birthday by dancing the sailors' hornpipe in Washington Square Park is alone worth the price of the book. (c) Copyright 2010.
