PreS-K. A group of dinosaurs jump out of a book and sneak into school, causing chaos in school and on the playground. When the final bell rings, they leap back onto the page. Preschoolers may need help understanding how the dinosaurs got into the classroom, but the farce, which unfolds in simple, rhyming text, and the exuberant pictures of green monsters, jiggling and wiggling with paint and glue, will help take away scary feelings about starting school for the first time. PreS-Gr 1-Dancing dinosaurs leap off the pages of a book and suddenly appear in the school library. From there, the playful green friends peek and sneak into a classroom and onto the playground while creating a swirl of excitement for the school librarian and a boy who follow their escapades. The bold, bouncy illustrations and one-sentence rhyming text make this book a concrete purchase. Hula-dancing dinosaurs leap right out of a book in the school library and wreak havoc by prancing and romping around school. Peeking in classrooms and ""jiggling and wiggling to and fro. / Wiping chalkboards as they go"" are some of their shenanigans. Half a dozen lime-green dinosaurs are the stars of this delightful easy reader that offers most of the best qualities of the genre: rhyming text, a jolly rhythm, funny characters and lots of action. The well-written, brief text follows the dancing dinosaurs in a school-library setting as they dance right out of the pages of an open book and into mischief around the school and playground. The librarian, an African-American woman with glasses, and one male student follow the dinosaurs, but the action focuses firmly on the out-of-control dinosaurs. Though this is intended for new readers who are just starting to sound out words, both the storyline and appealing art are strong enough to work as a read-aloud for younger children as well. These dancing dinos have legs, and they ought to pop back out of their book for more rollicking adventures for new readers. (Easy reader. 4-7) Copyright ©Kirkus Reviews, used with permission.
