K-Gr. 2. Cam Jansen proves her worth to Mr. Baker, her substitute teacher, in the newest book about the young sleuth with the photographic memory. First, Cam rewrites the math work that had been erased from the chalkboard. Then she uses her reasoning skills to help Mr. Baker find his lost coat. This early chapter book has an easy-to-read story, clean book design, and a colorful illustration on every page. Primary-grade students will particularly enjoy watching helpful Cam as she quietly outsmarts the substitute teacher and every other adult in sight. A useful addition to collections for beginning readers. --Carolyn Phelan Copyright 2005 Booklist

Cam Jansen uses her listening skills (instead of her trademark photographic memory) to track down her substitute teacher's coat, keys, and cell phone. The mystery's easy vocabulary and simple sentence structure are appropriate for beginning readers; Natti's illustrations provide plenty of visual reinforcement. An added bonus is the mild comic relief provided by the class clown and the absent-minded substitute. (c) Copyright 2010. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
