K-Gr 2-In keeping with the Berenstains' tradition, New Pup has an engaging plot and familiar illustrations. It is a basic beginning reader, with just a few simple sentences per page. The young bears' new pet does all the mischievous things that puppies do. This book is nothing new or unusual in text or art, but Berenstain Bears fans and dog lovers will appreciate it.-Laurel L. In Pup, Brother and Sister browbeat Mama into getting them a puppy; predictably, the dog is more work than they anticipated. In Treasure, the vacationing bears discover an old treasure map, which leads them not to gold but to something more valuable. Like everything Berenstain, these minimal stories and their cartoony illustrations are benign, familiar, and only mildly entertaining.
