PreS-Gr 3-These titles provide descriptions, photographs, and illustrations of the body and some of its systems. The first one looks at human bones, the skeletal system, and muscles, and the roles that they play. The second title describes the function of the heart and blood. The third book discusses the importance of eating a healthy, balanced diet and the digestive process. The photographs in each book depict a diverse group of children, and diagrams, illustrations, and X-rays provide age-appropriate and specific details. The books are written for proficient readers and make excellent additions to most collections.-Christine E. Carr, Lester C. Noecker Elementary School, Roseland, NJ (c) Copyright 2010. Extra-large type and a small, square trim size invite beginning readers to explore the human body. Short paragraphs positioned either under or beside clear photos and illustrations present very basic information (""Your skin is your largest organ,"" etc.). The use of the second person should engage newly independent readers, but some kids will stumble over the longer, less familiar words. Glos., ind.
