Review by School Library Journal Review

Gr 4-6-Three informative beginning sports books. Two-page chapters are devoted to the equipment of the sport, warm-up drills, and essential skills to get started. The terminology involved with each activity is also well explained. Skateboarding starts with simple moves such as pushing off and gliding and builds up to the more difficult maneuvers of kickturns, the ollie, grinding, and sliding. Snowboarding takes readers from beginning moves to tricks that are more difficult. Tennis discusses how to serve; return a serve; and what it means to rally, volley, lob, and make a drop shot. Full-color photographs and drawings appear on every page, and most illustrations in Skateboarding and Snowboarding show individuals wearing safety gear. Words found in bold are either defined immediately in that particular sentence or in the glossaries. These instructive titles should be helpful to novices or those just curious about the various sports.-Rachel Fox, Port Washington Public Library, NY (c) Copyright 2010.
