Review by School Library Journal Review
Gr 4-6-A general overview of microscopes from the discovery and use of early lenses to their many uses today. Several types are discussed, including simple and compound, as well as newer, more sophisticated kinds such as the transmission electron microscope, the scanning electron microscope, the acoustic microscope, and the scanning tunneling microscope. The layout is simple and appealing and includes large, color photographs on nearly every page. Children will find the pictures of a magnified wasp's head and a magnified spider's fangs especially fascinating. The basic design and clear explanations about key concepts and ideas will make the book especially appealing for students doing reports.-Maren Ostergard, Bellevue Regional Library, WA (c) Copyright 2010.
