Review by Library Journal Review
Originally published over a decade ago and now completely revised and updated, this lavishly illustrated guide to all of Ireland-the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland-doesn't quite fit the profile of a typical travel guidebook. While not helpful for those needing information on where to stay or where to eat (lists of hotels or restaurants are not included), it is nevertheless useful to those planning a tour through the country as well as to armchair travelers contemplating a trip to Ireland. Laden with hundreds of full-color photographs, big and small, and legible maps of regions and cities, the book is divided into eight sections, each covering a region, which is then subdivided by areas. Each section includes a detailed description of the region, a map, an index to touring areas, lists of events and places to see, and suggested walks. There are also telephone numbers for tourist offices and museums, with hours of opening. Each museum is given a brief description of the collections. The book also includes a "Special Features" section, which highlights the Giant's Causeway, Irish myths and legends, Gaelic games, and other attractions. An appendix on the "Outdoor Life" lists opportunities for angling, camping, and canoeing. There is also a helpful glossary of Irish and other terms. Highly recommended for all public libraries.-George M. Jenks, Bucknell Univ., Lewisburg, PA (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
