A motley crew of honors (human and aliens) and their creature-ship Leviathans are recuperating from battle while in pursuit of the deadly mindless swarm known as the Phage. Zara and her friends find their way to the Sliver, a rogue outpost with its own crime boss, where they are sucked into a plan to retrieve an imprisoned, unconscious god-like being. When the god-king awakens, begins devouring every living thing in its path, and employs the Phage as its personal army, the universe seems doomed. The sequel to Honor Among Thieves (2018) is non-stop adventure, with cultural nods to Star Wars and Ender's Game, and a diverse cast of humans and aliens that will have readers longing for the kind of honors program that puts them in space with sentient friend-ships of their own. New enemies are introduced, and there are a few sensual moments of honor-Leviathan bonding that may raise conservative eyebrows. Consider connecting fans to Melissa Landers' Starflight series or Cori McCarthy's The Color of Rain (2013).--Cindy Welch Copyright 2019 Booklist
