Review by Horn Book Review

A brief, pithy text presents a historical overview of trains and locomotion, from the first railroads created for mining in the eighteenth century through the steam engine and today's high speed vehicles. Along the way the volume briefly touches on topics such as track and tunnel construction. The illustrations are appealing but are rendered by a variety of artists, giving the book a less than cohesive appearance. Glos., ind. From HORN BOOK Spring 2000, (c) Copyright 2010.
