Review by Booklist Review

Easy is a relative term, even though the levels of difficulty assigned to each of these 50 ready-to-stitch patterns are somewhat questionable. "Cable comforts," a unicolored cable-knit blanket, is marked for beginners, but it should probably be designated as intermediate. Yet there's no problem either with the levels assigned to the afghan design or with the quality of the instructions; who could argue with traditional granny squares, Native American motifs, or cute-as-a-button textured lamb baby blankets? An appeal guaranteed to win over any taste, any stitching experience, and any age. --Barbara Jacobs

Review by Library Journal Review

First issued in 1994, Family Circle Easy Knitting Magazine has featured a variety of interesting afghan designs. This book gathers patterns from past issues, making them available to libraries that may not subscribe to the magazine. The 50 patterns include a wide variety of designs and techniques. Patterns are nicely laid out, with a materials list, gauge information, a stitch glossary, instructions, and a full-color, full-page photo of each design. Many of the designs specify yarns readily available and easier on the pocketbook than some of the specialty yarns. The selection of baby quilts is particularly colorful. The only quibble with this book is the skill levels assigned to patterns. Many of the patterns marked "intermediate" could well be termed "advanced," and some of the beginner designs are definitely intermediate. Through some editorial mix-up, the crochet patterns are ranked as for "beginning knitters" or "intermediate knitters." Nevertheless, for its wealth and variety of fetching designs, this title is highly recommended for public libraries. (c) Copyright 2010.
