Review by Booklist Review

Severa, who lives in Wisconsin, tells how she started her garden in 1976 and offers advice on how to start your own. She gives instructions on soil preparation, edging, creating paths, compost, mulches, and pesky plants to avoid. The author divides her book into chapters on trees, shrubs, and vines; perennials for shade; perennials for sun; bulbs; and water gardens. She describes hundreds of her favorite plants and their varieties. Almost every page of this useful guide for beginners is filled with attractive photographs. --George Cohen
