Reynolds's introductory meteorology book incorporates newer topics of interest such as Web addresses for weather information from various countries and considerable discussion of El Ni~no and its effects. The environmental issues section includes international conference conclusions about chlorofluorocarbon effects on the atmosphere and continued efforts to control output of greenhouse gases and other pollutants. The oceans' influence on weather is covered quite completely, even including a worldwide map of buoys. Computer model information includes a brief explanation of both chaos and ensemble forecasts. A first edition error: by the end of the 21st century, the expected 1.5 to 4.5 degrees Celsius warming is quoted as being 35 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit; correct values would be three to five degrees. This handy little book has enough new information to recommend it for general readers. A. E. Staver; Northern Illinois University
