Gr 2-4-These slim titles use illustrations, decent full-color photographs, and maps to bring popular vacation spots to life. Both are effectively organized and open with an overview of the site and a full-page map. Next comes a brief history, followed by one-page treatments of seven topics including the best places to go and things to do and see. A conservation thread is found throughout the books in discussions of wildlife and plant life. Boldfaced type highlights glossary words. Annotated Web site listings enhance the research possibilities for those who are planning a trip or doing a report on the area. Useful additions for young researchers and travelers.-Betsy Barnett, Eads School District, CO (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. Short, conversational sentences make these travel guides accessible to newly independent and reluctant readers. [cf2]Mexico[cf1] is thin on content, and [cf2]Canada[cf1] fails to indicate in the text or map the country's newly formed territory, Nunavut. Full-page color photographs and bland computer clip-art illustrate the volumes. Only the Internet link suggested for Yellowstone has a child-friendly, noncommercial format. Glos., ind.
