PreS-Gr 1-In this basic introduction to the profession, Liebman describes visits to a doctor's office and a hospital. Different machines and common procedures such as giving a shot, taking an X ray or a blood-pressure reading, and removing a cast are shown and simply explained. Surgery, physical therapy, and emergency situations involving paramedics are touched upon briefly. The minimal text, which is superimposed on each picture in a white box, provides very little information. In addition, the author jumps from one topic to another with few or no transitions. The close-up color photographs depict multiethnic patients and professionals. Not a first purchase.-Gayle Modrall, Presbyterian School, Houston, TX (c) Copyright 2010. These brief introductions provide only the barest information about two popular professions. Large color photos bleed off the pages and are not particularly well composed; the presentation is randomly organized, jumping from subject to subject; and the texts are merely captions for the sometimes grainy photographs. There are better introductions available. (c) Copyright 2010. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
