In a squalid South American oil town, four desperate men sign on for a suicide mission to drive trucks loaded with nitroglycerin over a treacherous mountain route. As they ferry their explosive cargo to a faraway oil fire, each bump and jolt tests their courage, their friendship, and their nerves.

Review by Library Journal Review

Four ragtag expatriates holed up in colonial Latin America accept a dangerous assignment: drive a pair of nitroglycerine-laden trucks over rugged terrain to extinguish an oil well fire. Despite a slow start that keeps the set-up dragging in low gear, Henri-Georges Clouzot (Diabolique) cranks up the suspense once his hard-bitten quartet hit the road. Featuring a load of supplemental extras and a digital spit shine, this uncut version of the grim classic is recommended for most collections. (c) Copyright 2010.
