Review by Library Journal Review

Before becoming synonymous with wide-screen epics (The Bridge on the River Kwai; Lawrence of Arabia; Doctor Zhivago), David Lean collaborated with playwright Noel Coward on a series of films that along with In Which We Serve, This Happy Breed, and Blithe Spirit includes this heartbreaking drama about a chaste relationship between a discontented housewife (Celia Johnson) and a married doctor (Trevor Howard) who fatefully bump into each other at a railway station. Their weekly meetings foster a guilt-inducing emotional intimacy culminating in an inevitable dilemma. [See Trailers, LJ 3/1/16.] © Copyright 2016.
