Gr. 1^-2. The latest Young Cam Jansen title in the Viking Easy-to-Read series once again has the popular appeal of a mystery in ordinary life. This time the setting is a pizza shop at the mall and Cam ("The Camera") uses her photographic memory to work out who took her jacket and why. The clues are all there in the words and pictures. New readers will be swept along by the story and then they'll want to go back and read the short chapters again to trace Cam's clever detective work. --Hazel Rochman

K-Gr 2-Another entry in this series of beginning chapter books. Here, Cam, her father, and her friend Eric are eating pizza at the local mall when Cam's jacket disappears. She uses her photographic memory to put all the pieces of the puzzle together and solve the case. The bright cartoonlike watercolors that appear on every page reflect the action and illustrate the pictures in the young detective's head. Adler also includes a memory game in which readers examine a picture and then turn to the back of the book to answer a list of questions about it. Although there isn't much of a mystery to solve, this title may be useful for collections in need of easy-readers.-DeAnn Tabuchi, San Anselmo Public Library, CA (c) Copyright 2010. Although young Cam Jansen's latest investigation--a search for her missing jacket--is on the dull side, observant readers will find just enough clues in the full-color illustrations and easy-to-read text to close the case before the super sleuth with the photographic memory does. A mildly humorous subplot reveals that CamÆs amazing memory can't always save the day: it doesn't keep her pizza from getting cold. From HORN BOOK Fall 2000, (c) Copyright 2010.
