Gr. 3^-5. Many color photographs, clarifying diagrams, and relevant yet humorous cartoon art are attractively dispatched throughout these highly readable installments in the My Health series; but the real attention-grabbers are the photomicrographs--photographs of microscopic enlargements of such miniscule biological phenomena as the papilloma virus that causes warts and a louse gluing nits to a strand of hair. Presented as though handwritten on notebook paper, suggested activities encourage readers to apply the knowledge gained from the books. For example, readers are told to use pepper, sandpaper, and potatoes to demonstrate how plantar warts can be transmitted at a swimming pool and how to use a thermometer to measure daily energy levels. New terminology is introduced in bold display type and defined in a glossary at the back of each book; there's also a section listing further references, including Web sites. --Ellen Mandel
