Review by Library Journal Review
Superb photographs and illustrations complemented by clear, concise text make this book a worthy addition to any public library. Although it is a reprint of a 1997 British edition, the descriptions of modern tackle and techniques are still valid, and novice anglers can learn a lot from its wide-ranging coverage. The book describes a large variety of lines, reels, and rods--including salmon fly rods longer than 12 feet and ultralight spinning rods shorter than six. Bait options from cheese on a hook to dry flies are discussed, as are fresh- and saltwater fish species from around the world. Explanations of their habitats, spawning and feeding patterns, and appropriate equipment for hooking them offer an adequate overview to readers interested in the total scope of angling experiences. Highly recommended for public libraries.--Will Hepfer, SUNY at Buffalo Libs. (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
