Review by Horn Book Review

Gathering 'Pippi Longstocking' (1950), 'Pippi Goes on Board' (1958), and 'Pippi in the South Seas'(1959) into one volume, this book features thirteen full-page color illustrations and numerous black-and-white drawings. Chesworth captures the story's energy and humor making skillful use of the page and sometimes placing the viewer right in the path of the action. Even with a few outdated ideas, Pippi is an extraordinary character--brave, unconventional, and astonishingly strong. (An afterword tells about Lindgren and her work.) Reviews 9/50, 2/58, 10/59.
