Review by Horn Book Review

See the piggy, / See the puddle, / See the muddy little puddle." Mother, father, and brother pig chide the little piggy--who, naturally, ends up in "the muddy little puddle"--for being "much too plump and little / To be in the muddy middle." Marshall's instantly recognizable characters bring Pomerantz's delightful verse to life in this board-book edition of an old favorite. (c) Copyright 2018. Review by Kirkus Book Review

. . . See the piggy in the middle/ Of the muddy little puddle./ See her dawdle, see her diddle/ In the muddy, muddy middle. . . ."" Charlotte Pomerantz' wallow in verbal nonsense and ""Squishy-squashy mooshy-squooshy, oofy-poofy"" sounds begins with father, mother and brother pig scolding baby in the mud puddle and recommending soap, but when Piggy persists in answering ""Nope"" the three give up and jump in with her. ""So they all dove way down derry,/ And were very, very merry."" Though grownups might find all the repeated fiddle-faddles a bit much, James Marshall's porcine family -- Piggy in a frilled baby bonnet and holding a pink balloon, father in fez and bathrobe, etc. -- have just the air of ludicrous gravity and blimpy buoyancy needed to carry it off.
