Gr. 1-3. Children who know this duo from picture-book appearances will have fun reading this new adventure themselves. Danny invites his friend the dinosaur to his birthday party, an act that inspires some comedy but in the end turns out just fine. Extra leading makes the large type stand out even more than usual; the story is simple and sweet; and the use of dialogue will give new readers practice in coping with quotation marks. The cartoonlike simplicity of Hoff's artwork should have great appeal. (Reviewed Oct. 1, 1995)0060264373Stephanie Zvirin

PreS-Gr 2Hoff continues the story from where he left it 37 years ago. Danny returns to the museum to invite his dinosaur friend to his sixth birthday party. As in the original book, the dinosaur does things with his own unique twist, providing the humor beginning readers will enjoy. Though the illustrations are now fully colored, the characters and their expressions leave no doubt that these are the same friends from the pastwith a bright future and deserving a spot on beginning-reader shelves.Gale W. When Danny turns six, he invites his friend the dinosaur to his birthday party. Although the plot is not strong, new readers will enjoy the silly antics of the dinosaur as he helps decorate high places, pins the tail on himself, and eats an enormous quantity of ice cream in this second book about Danny and the dinosaur. The humor in the story is enhanced by Hoff's simple cartoon drawings. From HORN BOOK 1995, (c) Copyright 2010. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
