Review by Kirkus Book Review
Tony's cooking popcorn on the stove, while Tiny reads aloud from the P volume of a reference book, can't compare with the little girl slowly sinking away as she is lectured in last year's Quicksand Book; and instead of adding humorous asides de Paola's pictures here are simply pleasant but straight illustrations of the cited facts. As always, though, he puts the information in an easily palatable form. (""The Iroquois who came to the first Thanksgiving Dinner even brought some popcorn in a deerskin pouch. The colonists liked it so much that they served popped corn for breakfast with cream poured on it."") And the bouncy, semi-fictionalized format which worked so well with clouds (1975) and quicksand certainly suits this latest topic. Copyright ©Kirkus Reviews, used with permission.
