A trio of reissues bring back the beloved elephant in a starring role. The last book to be published before his death, Jean de Brunhoff's Babar and Father Christmas (1940) follows the hero in search of Santa as he attempts to bring Yuletide cheer to Elephants' country. A few spreads were finished by de Brunhoff's then 12-year-old son Laurent. (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved

Review by Horn Book Review

Although de BrunhoffÆs prose seems dated, Babar fans will still enjoy this holiday tale. When he discovers that the elephant children have received no response to their letter to Santa, Babar decides to seek out the merry old elf himself. The lengthy story meanders a bit, but the lively illustrations will hold children's interest. From HORN BOOK Spring 2002, (c) Copyright 2010.
