Review by Booklist Review

Architecture and interior design in the southwestern vernacular style is well covered by the authors in a volume notable for the large number of good black-and-white photographs and for the smaller number of colorplates. While less glossy and designer-oriented than Mather and Woods' Santa Fe Style [BKL Ja 15 87], the book does cover the origins and development of adobe buildings in the region, identifying stylistic variations and various architectural elements both in the text and through the illustrative photographs and drawings. Some floor plans are given for modern adobe structures, and many fine historic examples are featured as well. Glossary, bibliography, and guide to public adobe buildings; index. JB.
