Review by Library Journal Review
Since, as Sarrantonio says, `` The Fireside Treasury of Recently Current Humor stinks as a title,'' he used the word ``new'' in his title to differentiate the book from his earlier compilation, The Fireside Treasury of Great Humor ( LJ 8/87). All material is no more than 15 years old, this period being what Sarrantonio terms the new Golden Age of Humor. Libraries that don't collect heavily in the humor department might be interested in this book because it draws together many of today's best-selling humorists, as well as a few lesser-known yet talented writers. Among those represented here are Art Buchwald, Doug Kenney, Martin Mull, Jonathan Winters, Bob and Ray, Dave Barry, Garrison Keillor, Stephanie Brush, Tom Bodett, Fran Lebowitz, and Cynthia Heimel. A good collection.-- Carol Spielman Lezak, General Learning Corp., Northbrook, Ill. (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
