Many women dream of a happy family, meaningful work, and a beautiful, welcoming home. But is it really possible to have all three? When Jean Stoffer's husband announced he was quitting his extremely stressful job to look for another career, she suddenly needed to bring in a lot more of the family income. The problem was, while she had a degree in business, her part-time job paid very little and she had few obvious options for earning more anytime soon. In Establishing Home, Jean tells how necessity sparked her journey from part-time receptionist to founder of an award-winning home design company and star of the Magnolia Network's show, The Established Home. Along the way, she shares what's she learned about design, business,... parenting, and relationships. In Establishing Home Jean will: - Inspire you to discover a dream you didn't know you had - Reassure you that whether you're building a career, raising a family, or redoing your home, it's okay to slow down and enjoy the journey - Teach you practical ideas for combining work and family-and how to work in harmony with adult children - Reveal her pro tips for making your home a beautiful place to be - Provide gorgeous 4-color photos of her classic, elegant designs for your own inspiration Any home-and life-can become even more beautiful with a little bit of heart.

Google "Jean Stoffer Designs" and discover interiors done with impeccable taste and simplicity, the signature example being "The Madison," a wholesale renovation and redesign of a 10,000-square-foot historical mansion in Grand Rapids, MI. Known for her kitchen inset cabinetry, Stoffer recounts her rise from part-time design firm receptionist to national recognition via her TV program on the Magnolia Network, The Established Home. Stoffer's writing is light and breezy, moving from one design success to the next. She shares information about her husband and four children and they, one by one, begin to join her in what has become the family business. For DIYers, she includes a wealth of helpful tips on remodeling, identifying homes with so-called "good bones," and such specific insights as tuck pointing and negotiating historic preservation commissions. She is less helpful with actual costs; in truth, most of her efforts seem beyond those on shoestring budgets. Additionally, this reads like a mostly conflict-free life, with the faith part of the subtitle taking a distant third behind family and friends. VERDICT For DIY newbies and fans of Stoffer.--Sandra Collins
