eBook - 2022

What you believe about God and your place in his kingdom has everything to do with how you'll fare in the battles of this life. Jesus has won the war. We're on the winning side. Though it seems at times that the enemy is winning the day, God himself will have the final say. Susie Larson's new book, Strong in Battle, is about how to gain victory in all the hardships and obstacles we face in this life-from physical to financial to relational. God is training your hands for battle, and your dependence on him is your superpower. As you rely on him, it leads to better discernment, power, and authority. Greater intimacy with God also displaces fear with love, which helps us fight with more courage, joy, and strength. The battle is ...real, you're not imagining it. With her usual candor, Susie addresses questions such as: Why am I facing attack? Whose side am I on? How can I guard my heart? What are God's promises to me? How can I trust him more? The book will include practical strategies for getting back to peace even when you are in the midst of battle. When you employ these tactics, you are not vulnerable to the enemy's schemes, and you arise victorious with a stronger sense of who you are and what you possess through Jesus Christ.

Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

This contemplative volume by radio talk show host Larson (May His Face Shine upon You) offers advice on how to remain steadfast in one's faith. Cautioning against the evils of Satan, Larson draws on the Bible and personal anecdotes to explore the qualities that will help Christians prevail in their personal spiritual battles. Chief among these qualities is humility, Larson contends, and she provides humbleness-enhancing exercises that include confiding one's troubles in "someone who has the kind of faith you need right now" and contemplating passages from Ephesians and Isaiah. Larson counsels readers to "stay dependent" on God, recounting how she woke up one night seized by a conviction that her adult son was in danger only to realize she had let fear overtake her faith in God's ability to keep her family safe. The author suggests staying alert to the influences of Satan in one's life, which may manifest as complacency or excessive self-righteousness. Christians will appreciate the focus on prayer and the bounty of prayer prompts, including such meditations as "Whom do I need to forgive?" and "What in me still needs to heal?" This makes for a solid Bible study companion. (Aug.)
