Review by Booklist Review

By now, the Mediterranean diet is old news, and in fact, dieticians Ball and Seagrave-Daly believe it should be considered a lifestyle, and not a weight-loss tool. Here they tout the health benefits of eating Mediterranean-style, dispel the myths (too many carbohydrates; too expensive; too time-consuming), and provide some how-to sidebars, like a few simple ways to reduce food waste, or how to tear basil leaves to avoid browning. Healthy hacks, did-you-knows, and try-these accompany each of the 125 dishes (all loaded with nutritional information, chatty introductions, and good color photographs). For no-rise pizza dough, use beer. After apple-walnut ricotta toast is served, make a quick apple sauce with the leftover fruit. Inventiveness is also a hallmark of their recipes: EALT wraps (egg and avocado added to the traditional BLT), olive oil yogurt spread with a hint of za'atar spice, cannoli cups without the shells. A new flavor for a centuries-old way of life. Appended with five-day meal plans.
